Only a few days after Palm Pre was proclaimed as the iPhone killer, we hear today that the Taiwanese mobile phone company HTC will be launching a brand new large touch screen phone that a senior executive at Telstra is calling “better and more functional” than the Palm Pre.

According to the executives from Telstra:

"We have seen both and we believe that the new HTC phone will be a real competitor to the iPhone and the Pre which at this stage looks nice but is still not delivered to market".

It’s widely rumored that the Palm Pre is actually built by HTC, although neither HTC nor Palm would comment. It’s amusing that HTC will now be launching its own Android-based device to beat the Pre. The device is expected to arrive Q2 of 2009.

We can’t wait.
