Are you drowning in inauguration fever, but feel left out because you couldn’t be in D.C. today to witness this historical moment? Fear not, CNN has put together a virtual world using crowd sourced photos that real attendees sent in, with PhotoSynth.

Picture 4

The technology is from Microsoft Live Labs and it is super cool. It allows you to stitch together a bunch of pictures to create a 3D virtual world. Obviously, the more pictures there are, the richer the virtual world becomes. You can pan from left to right, up and down, and even zoom in and out. Head over to CNN now to check it out!

In order for you to experience this 3D world, you will need to have Silverlight installed (you will automatically be prompted if you don’t have it), which is a lightweight plug-in similar to Flash. Both Macs and PCs are supported.

If you like PhotoSynth, you can even create your own out of pictures that you have taken. Head over to PhotoSynth.net to learn how!
