Update: since this got posted, we have another post with more updated Android phones here.

T-Mobile G1 is the only Android-based handset on the market, but that will all change very soon. 2009 is going to be a big year for Android as many OEMs are pushing out their first Android phones. Here is a roundup of all the currently available spy photos of upcoming Android phones.

T-Mobile G2 (Rumored release date: May 2009)

Following the success of the T-Mobile G1 from last year, this yet-to-be-announced handset is rumored to be made by HTC again (just like the G1). The G2 will sport a similar user interface as the G1, but it will be thinner and will opt for a onscreen keyboard instead of a physical one. It’s pretty safe to bet the updated Android OS aka Cupcakes will be loaded on this baby, as the current Android release does not support onscreen keyboard.

Kogan Agora Pro (Officially postponed indefinitely)

This on again, off again Android handset comes from an Aussie company. It was originally going to be released on January 29 as the world’s second Android phone, but the company announced that the Android phone is now indefinitely postponed “due to potential future interoperability issues”. Anyway, we still believe that Kogan will eventually push this product onto the market once they have figured out the issues.

HTC’s Palm Pre/iPhone Killer (Rumored release date: H2 2009)

Information is scarce around what exactly HTC is working on here, but information came from Australian telecom services provider Telestra’s executives who claimed that HTC is working on its own smartphone. The executives, who have previewed the unit, claimed that HTC’s new phone is even better than the Palm Pre, and it is believed that this new Pre/iPhone killer is based on the Android OS. HTC has not officially responded to this story and no spy shots available at this time.

Huawei Android Phone (Announcement expected in Feb. 2009)

The Chinese company is expected to launch its first Android-based handset at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month. The company had said on its website that it plans to unveil a “Smart mobile phone based on the ‘Android’ platform” in a section of their booth named “Mobile U-life”. But since then, the company has removed specific reference to Android, signaling a potential reversal of the original announcement. I guess we will find out soon enough next month. No spy photos available at this time.

Samsung (Official release date: Q2 2009)

Company officials have confirmed that Samsung is working on Android-based phones that will be available through T-Mobile and Sprint in the US. The unofficial information is that the Android-based devices will be based on the highly successful and proven Samsung Omnia and Instinct platform. The Android-based phones will likely resemble Omnia and Instinct.

Garmin (Release date unknown)

Garmin is expected to launch its first phone, called nüvifone, later this year, but the device is not expected to be based on Android. Our suspicion is that Garmin realized that building a mobile phone OS is not trivial when the started working on its first phone, and decided that they should leverage Android in future handsets.

Motorola (Rumored release date: Q2 2009)

Last September, Motorola confirmed that it was building a 350 people team to work on Android phones. The first phone will have an “iPhone-like touchscreen”, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and will be loaded with social networking apps. Price tag? A very attractive $150 with 2-year contract.

Other Manufacturers

Details on the plans of other manufacturer are scant right now, but we will update you as we find out more.
