Reflections on WWDC Keynote
Apple’s keynote yesterday at WWDC gave us a mixed bag of goodies and disappointments.
Goodies:
- Refreshed line of Macbook Pros at lower price points – faster, more memory, more space and cheaper!
- New iPhone 3G S – we knew this was coming. While it’s not a revolutionary by any means compared to the current iPhone 3G, it still has some nice improvements: video recording, more memory, more space, faster processor, etc.Check out the guided tour at Apple.com here.

- iPhone 3G at $99 – current generation of iPhone is now “last generation”. Apple is going to keep it on the shelf for $99 (8GB) and $149 (16GB).
- Snow Leopard at $29 – the new OS from Apple will be released in September and will only cost $29 for Leopard users. Wow, is Apple turning into Walmart?
- Safari 4 release – some might find this exciting. While it has some interesting UI glitzy effects, we were most excited about defeating Apple’s evilness and get Bing to show up as the search provider.
Disappointments:
- No Steve Jobs
Hope the guy is still healthy though. - No front-facing video camera on new iPhone as rumored.
- No iTablet – ok, we didn’t really expect this one to show up, but it would have been nice to surprise us
All in all, it was an ok keynote. The price cuts will certainly help Apple gain market share in this tough economy, but at the expense of lower margin.
