Steve is BACK, with a million new iPhones sold over the weekend
Today, Apple issued a press release, quoting company CEO Steve Jobs “Customers are voting and the iPhone is winning. With over 50,000 applications available from Apple’s revolutionary App Store, iPhone momentum is stronger than ever.”
Many interpret Jobs’s quote as a signal for his return to the company after his 6 months medical leave.
Apple also released data that over a million iPhone 3GS’s sold over the weekend, beating analysts’ expectations of 0.5 million for opening weekend and matching last year’s iPhone 3G launch. Many had predicted that iPhone 3 G S would not sell as well as the iPhone 3G because of the perceived lack of revolutionary new features, and the continuing sinking economy. Even more remarkable is that the iPhone 3G launched in 21 countries simultaneously last year, but the iPhone 3G S only launched in 8 countries this past weekend. So it is clear that the iPhone is still on the rise in its momentum and is becoming a cult much like how the iPod has become.
