People just love to hate Microsoft. Not sure why, but they just do. Microsoft is evil…, or so people like to say.

If Microsoft is evil, I don’t know what Apple is. Microsoft has been pushed around left and right to remove components out of their Windows operating system. And when they add a search box inside their web browser, they made sure there is an easy way for users to switch to use Google, Yahoo!, or whatever search engine they wish.

So did Apple do the same when they ship Safari?

Hell NO! The search provider on the iPhone is just limited to Google and Yahoo! period. You can’t even add new search providers. So what about the latest spanking new Apple Safari 4 that was just released today? You are locked into using Google as the search engine. I don’t know what kind of BS is this. If Microsoft had even done half of this, people would be screaming and crying foul. Yet people seems to be ok when Apple does it. Yes, you may say Microsoft has a dominant market share of the desktop web browser market, but the same argument can be made for the iPhone Safari in the mobile web browser market.

Why then, does nobody cry foul?

We Really Want To Use Bing!
Since Microsoft released Bing last week, we have been using it as our default search engine. We haven’t found a need to go back to Google anymore. If you want to use Bing in the web browser search box, you will need to work around Apple’s evilness by downloading the Safari plug-in called Glims from here. Once you install it, restart Safari and go into Preferences. There, you will be able to add any search engine you like and use it the search box.
